Dunwoody is located approximately 10 miles from Metro-Atlanta in northern Dekalb County, Georgia.


Dunwoody Community Overview:

Initially a farming area and named after Major Charles Dunwoody this community was founded in the 1830's. A large part of the city was at one time owned by the well-known Spruill family. The Spruill;s bequethed their beautiful residence to the community of Dunwoody and today you can take a tour at the Spruill Historic Home and Gallery located on Ashford-Dunwoody Road. In the early 1830's the Ebenezer Primitive Baptist Church, situated at the intersection of Roberts and Spalding Drive's, was founded and today it continues as one of the most active houses of worship in the area.

Near the intersection of Chamblee-Dunwoody and Mt. Vernon is the Dunwoody Library and Cultural Arts Center which was originally the first public school founded in 1889.

There are numerous historic cemeteries in this community where many of the founding families of Dunwoody are layed to rest such as:

  • Ebenezer Primitive Baptist Church
  • New Hope Presbyterian Church
  • Spruill family cemeteries
  • Homeowners that now reside in the community of Dunwoody are able to take advantage of some of the highest ranked schools in Atlanta, plenty of shopping boutiques, great entertainment and fine dining establishments.
