North on I-75, Kennesaw is located in the northern sector of Cobb County on the western side of I-75.

The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History, located in downtown Kennesaw directly on the CSX railroad line that once was a key stop on the way to Atlanta, is affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. It's home to "The General," the Civil War-era locomotive stolen by Union soldiers and rescued by the South after a daring chase north along the rail line. New restaurants and stores have opened in town as a result of the impressive popularity of the museum and the revitalization of the downtown area. Kennesaw also enjoys new housing of all types and has developed as a prime location for business due to its excellent location between 1-575, 1-75 and US 41. Kennesaw State University is located in this area.
Perhaps Cobb's most historic city, Kennesaw is home to the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield and the famous Civil War locomotive, The General. In addition, Kennesaw offers great shopping and dining in its bustling Town Center Mall district as well as cultural events through Kennesaw State University.
